our services

Care that builds connection.

Everything we offer is designed to nourish, support, and uplift — from food and movement to friendship and belonging. Our services respond to real needs, helping seniors and vulnerable community members live with dignity, comfort, and connection.

Meals delivered at home.

Nutritious, home-cooked meals are prepared in our Plumstead kitchen and delivered directly to seniors’ homes. Each delivery offers nourishment, consistency, and a friendly check-in, supporting independence and dignity at every stage of ageing.

We are mindful of the nutritional needs of older adults (for example, reduced salt and spices) and are able to accommodate specific dietary requirements such as vegetarian meals or allergies. Meals aren’t extravagant due to our limited budget, but we aim to provide variety wherever possible.

Our kitchen prepares meals twice a week, after which drivers and hoppers (passenger seat volunteers) complete delivery routes, currently on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We serve members throughout the southern suburbs, from Garlandale to Muizenberg.

Outside this area, other branches may be able to assist — enquiries can be directed to the Meals on Wheels regional office on 021 851 6610. Within our service area, you can contact us to find out more about becoming a member or sponsoring an elderly person in need of our meals.

Alternatively, you can download an application form [PDF] and submit it to us via email or in person at our premises in Plumstead.

Delivery through feeding schemes.

In partnership with generous donors and local businesses, we extend our reach beyond seniors to support vulnerable individuals and families. We have identified twelve non-profit organisations through which we reach a broad range of communities where hunger remains a daily challenge.

By providing these organisations with food items donated from various sources, we are able to reach thousands of people in need.

These feeding schemes ensure that no good food goes to waste and that it reaches communities where it is most needed. In return, we receive feedback, reports, and photographs that show how the food items are being received by the community.

Seniors Club.

A safe, joyful space for friendship, conversation, and community. Open to anyone aged 60+. Seniors gather three times per week at our Community Centre, and enjoy a programme including a broad range of activities. If you’d like to join the Seniors Club you can download an application form [PDF] via the button below or contact the office for more information.

what our seniors say

Real stories. Real impact.

The impact of Meals on Wheels Plumstead is best told by the people we serve.

These words reflect more than a delivered meal — they speak to connection, kindness, and the reassurance of knowing someone cares.

Every message reminds us why this work matters, and why community support makes such a difference.

I’m thankful to Meals on Wheels for delivering fresh home cooked food twice a week because I often don’t have the energy to cook for myself.
